In line with today’s celebration of Earth Day, MABIKAs Foundation joins Studio/K in an event that aims to shed light about the struggles of indigenous people, especially in terms of protecting their lands, people and culture to keep the indigenous society alive and sustainable.
MABIKAs Foundation will take part in the program as one of the speakers in the person of Rev. Cesar Taguba, a member of the MABIKAs Advisory Committee. He will be talking more on ‘colonization, the making of indigenous people, protectors of mother Earth’.
Other members of the MABIKAs group will be there to perform Bendian dance, a community dance of the Ibaloy tribe of the Benguet province in the Philippine Cordillera region. During the times of our great forefathers, the dance is used to celebrate the arrival of successful headhunters. Nowadays, it has become part of festivities to symbolize unity and harmony among members of the community.
Today, MABIKAs Foundation will be performing the dance and will invite the audience to join. Bendian is a local term that literally means dance till you get tired.
